ABOUT ONA
Ona Curran is a graduate of Hofstra University and holds an M.A. in History Museum Procedures from the State University of New York (Cooperstown Graduate Program). She is a former museum curator and historical society director. She has been appraising art and antiques for twenty years and is a certified member of the Appraisers Association of America..
Ona is a museum consultant, lectures on antiques and the arts and is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Schenectady County Historical Society. She has written articles for The Magazine Antiques and is an art historian.
She currently is guest curator of the exhiibit "Faces of Schenectady 1715-1750" and author of the catalog. The catalog illustrates the work of Nehemiah Partrridge, John Heaton and Pieter Vanderlyn and includes portraits of many of the early residents of Schenectady never shown before as a group. Many are in museums throughout the east. Early Schenectady names include Veeder, Glen, Sanders, Mabee, Truax, Van Patten, Ten Eyck, Beck, Vrooman. The exhiibit is at the Schenectady County Historical Society, 32 Washington Avenue, Schenectady New York 12305. Dates of the exhibit are May 8 - November 1, 2010.
Ona Curran is also the author "Thomas McIlworth/Colonial New York Portrait Painter who worked in the period 1757 - 1767 and painted the notables of that period including the Van Rennselaers and Van Cortlands, Stuyvesants.
